Honey bees pollinate a number of crops that we consume and pollination requires healthy colonies. Multiple stressors, including poor nutrition, pathogens/parasites, and pesticides, threaten colony health. We study one of these stressors - nutrition. We look how bees respond to dietary stress and find ways to improve bee diets (natural forage and supplements). Our methods for studying these questions come from the worlds of insect physiology, genetics, molecular biology, bioinformatics, chemistry, and evolutionary ecology.
